The last time the two cities were connected by air was more than five years ago.
The connection between Ljubljana and Düsseldorf was inaugurated today. Passengers will be able to fly between the two cities three times a week.
The subsidies, available until 2025, will cover 50% of the airport fees for airlines wishing to establish flight routes with Slovenia's three major airports in Ljubljana, Maribor, and Portorož.
WizzAir, a Hungarian budget airline, has launched a regular flight from Ljubljana to Skopje, operating twice a week. The airline also offers flights from Ljubljana to London, Amsterdam, Paris and London Gatwick.
This is the second Slovenia route the airline added to its portfolio.
The airline will connect the capitals of the two countries.
The airport is hoping to add more connections in the future as well.

British low-cost airline Easyjet will launch a Ljubljana-Berlin route in August. Flights between Slovenia's and Germany's capital will be scheduled three times a week, starting 9th August.
