Slovenia's main theatre event kicked off on Monday. The 59th Maribor Theatre festival brings twelve Slovenian productions competing for prestigious Borštnik awards, which will be conferred at the end of the festival. The official opening is scheduled for Friday.

Nawrocki wins Polish presidential vote 60th Borštnik Theatre Festival kicks off today
The festival, also known as Borštnikovo srečanje, will feature 16 productions in the competition programme, eight shows in the accompanying programme and five guest productions from abroad. The oldest and the most prominent theatre festival in Slovenia will conclude on June 12th with the awarding of festival prizes and the Borštnik Ring.
The festival of laughter brings together theater and circus arts and artists. The aim is to allow Slovenian audiences to encounter the most up-to-date trends and watch the most interesting shows of contemporary circus from all over Europe and beyond. This year, in its 18th edition.

Today we're at the theatre talking to a Macedonian theatre and film director who has been living in Slovenia for 6 years now. Meet Aleksandar Popovski, the Artistic Director at the Drama SNG Maribor. He calls theatre his home and a special place in which he can create other versions of the world. He praises Slovenia's audience noting its fine taste for theatre, opera, ballet, and arts in general. Having worked in around 15 countries so far, he says it's nice to work in Slovenia where everyone behaves like a professional. He also loves the relationship between people and nature in Slovenia. The music editors of Radio Maribor, Radio Si and Television Maribor have again chosen ten songs that made the best impression on listeners in the last year and competed for the title of Best New Slovenian Music. The final event took place at the Grand Hall of SNG Maribor theatre. The songs were presented in fresh musical arrangements by the Big Band of RTV Slovenia.
