Dave’s first ski lesson was fun. He fell x times, but he’s still willing to learn. Today he learned SNEG is SNOW, SMUČI are SKIS, ROKAVICE are GLOVES, ŠAL is SCARF and ŠALA is a JOKE. He now also knows that FUN is ZABAVA and SNEŽAK is a SNOWMAN.
Today Dave learned a few tongue-twisters in Slovenian... a PARKIRIŠČE is a CAR PARK, a GOSTIŠČE is a GUESTHOUSE, and a PRENOČIŠČE is ACCOMMODATION, or where they're going to stay. They have a SMUČIŠČE and DRSALIŠČE for SKIING and SKATING… And they need to use the SEDEŽNICA – the CHAIR LIFT to get there... Oh, and Dave needs to go and lie down now.. on a JOGI - a MATTRESS!

Amelie Bruin comes from Strasbourg, France. As a young Erasmus student at the Ljubljana Faculty of Arts, she just loves the fact that Slovenia's capital is small and therefore very walkable. Compared to France, she said that the studies in Ljubljana are much better in terms of quality courses and the level of language, as well as, support from the professors. Apart from her studies (major in translation), she also has many other interests, including listening to music, especially 80s music, cooking, dancing, tatooing, art and painting. She definitely plans to come back one day, especially for skiing and hiking. Amelie picked the song Rebel Yell by rock legend Billy Idol.
The 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing official closed on Sunday and they will be remembered as very successful for Slovenia. Slovenia won seven Winter Olympic medals in Beijing, which is Slovenia’s second best medal tally at the Winter Olympics. Two of them were gold medals, three silver and two bronze. Slovenia has shut down all its ski centres due to Covid-19. The situation in other EU ski centres is the same. However, in Austria skiing is allowed while accompaniyg ski facilities have to remain closed. Ski resort managers fear what the future might bring. I was very pleased when Peter Pen agreed to join me in the studio and discuss what he felt about the responsibility of training and managing the everyday requirements of this great group of athletes as they travel around the world. Mathieu Boulay is a Frenchman living in Ljubljana - the small scale version of Paris!!! He arrived here eight years ago and after finishing his master's degree studies at the University of Ljubljana, Mathieu decided to stay on and continue living in the Slovenian capital. Mathieu is a freelance language teacher and says the quality of life in Slovenia is much better than in France. Meet Marko Mandir, a Croatian opera singer living and working in Maribor. He came to Slovenia 13 years ago because of a woman. Today he sings in the Slovene National Theatre, in a Croatian »klapa« in Maribor, and from time to time also at funerals… Marko is no longer with the woman that brought him here, but has no regrets about coming to Slovenia.
