Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he designated Solomy Balungi Bossa of Uganda, Luz del Carmen Ibanez Carranza of Peru, Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini Gansou of Benin, and Beti Hohler of Slovenia.
The State Department said that it would freeze any assets that the ICC judges have in U.S. jurisdictions.
Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon said that the Foreign Ministry deeply regrets the decision directed at Slovenia's ICC judge and added:
‘’It is a direct attack on the court and its independence. The judge is a Slovenian citizen and we will of course stand by her so that she can carry out her work without any disturbances. We are also in contact with our colleagues within the European Union. A little earlier, we were in contact with our Dutch colleague, where the court is located. They will also provide us with assistance, especially regarding the question of what these sanctions are, whether they are economic, financial, travel-related. We will initiate the EU mechanism that can protect European Union citizens who fall under the sanctions system of third countries.’’
Neither the US nor Israel is a member of and neither recognizes the legitimacy of the ICC court.
