It will introduce four levels of alerts and will work through public mobile networks, enhancing the current emergency notification system.
Leon Behin, head of the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration, explained that the upgraded system will allow targeted alerts—meaning people in specific danger zones will be directly notified in case of natural disasters or threats.
‘’Up until now, in Slovenia, we have used exclusively the public alarm system using sirens. It was effective. We had more than one thousand five hundred of them. Now we are adding another additional notification through the so-called setke system, or topotic messages themselves, which means that when a siren sounds, it will now also be heard on mobile devices in a certain area that is foreseen. This does not have to be only mobile phones, it can also be tablets. Everything that is registered in the mobile network will receive a notification from our Protection and Rescue Administration, which will contain very precise instructions on what is really happening and also brief instructions on what you need to do.’’
All notifications will be sent in multiple languages, with Slovenian as the primary and English as the secondary language, in line with EU-level agreements.
