Around a hundred locals in the Municipality of Kostel protested today against the closure of the petrol station in Petrina. Unhappy with Petrol's decision, they closed the main road towards the Petrina border crossing with Croatia. If the station is not reopened, local officials are threatening to step up the protests.
The Mayor of Kostel Nataša Turk, said they want to be treated as equal citizens, and not have to shoulder the burden of the dispute between the Petrol company and the government. Locals also pointed to the fact that the station is located in an important strategic border area.
Petrol decided to temporarily shut down four of its filling stations amid a dispute with the government over fuel prices.
Yesterday, protests were also held in one of the other affected municipalities, in the village of Črni Vrh in Idrija. Petrol also shut down its stations in Solčava and in Podkoren, near Kranjska Gora.
