Police apprehended three suspects shortly after the assault. They were released after questioning, as the injuries were deemed minor and did not justify further detention.
However, police detained two of the suspects, the 18-year-old and the juvenile, today, based on instructions from the District State Prosecutor's Office.
President Nataša Pirc Musar has condemned the attack on Ribnica Mayor Samo Pogorelc, urging the Roma community to reject violence and promote dialogue: ‘’I urge the entire Roma community to refrain from violence. Violence will not lead anywhere. What I expect from them is to look within themselves and accept that it is necessary to live in accordance with the law. They are not an exception and should not be.’’
Following the Ribnica assault, additional police have been deployed to Kočevje, Ribnica, and Grosuplje, areas with Roma populations, the Ljubljana Police Department confirmed.
