Slovenia’s President Nataša Pirc Musar will address the National Assembly today at an extraordinary session. She will present her position on the situation in southeastern Slovenia following the tragic event, and on the importance of effective integration of the Roma community. Pirc Musar herself requested the convening of the extraordinary session immediately after the attack in Novo Mesto, in which a 48-year-old man lost his life. Ahead of today’s session, Pirc Musar said: My task in this tense situation is certainly to calm tempers — but above all, I will point out that repression is the very last thing that should be done. When and if it becomes necessary, the state will, of course, take such measures — and I have made that clear and explicit to the Roma community as well.
Today’s session, featuring the president’s address, will be the first in a series of extraordinary parliamentary sessions requested following the tragic event in Novo Mesto.
