The National Assembly has adopted changes to the law on public holidays. The holiday marking the unification of the northeastern region of Prekmurje will have its name changed. It was known as the “Unification of Prekmurje Slovenians with the Mother Nation Day”. It will now be known as “Prekmurje Incorporation and Reunification of Prekmurje Slovenians with the Mother Nation Day”.
The bill was passed with 47 in favour and 19 against. The holiday is observed on 17 August.
It remembers the day in 1919 when the Prekmurje region was officially integrated into what was then the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
