The court cited the risk of re-offending, while the suspect pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
The attack happened early Saturday outside a bar, after the victim arrived to help his son, who said he was being threatened by a group of Roma men.
Police say the suspect has no adult criminal record but was previously involved in several juvenile offences, including violent and sexual crimes. He faces five to fifteen years in prison if convicted.
