Omrzel started the day 11 seconds behind race leader Luke Tuckwell of Australia. He finished second on today's final stage in Pinerolo behind Norway's Jorgen Nordhagen to claim the race winner's pink jersey by 12 seconds, ahead of the Australian. Pavel Novak of the Czech Republic took the final podium place.
Omrzel also finished 4th at the recent Tour of Slovenia. He also won the white jersey in that race for the best young rider.
The 19-year old from Novo Mesto is the second Slovenian to win the Giro Next Gen after Tadej Valjavec took victory in 1999.
The race has also been won by such legends of the sport as Marco Pantani and Francesco Moser.
